Pokémon Turquoise has opened its doors at long, long last! We're a new (ish) RP fresh off a grand reopening, and now that things are getting started we're hoping at least some of y'all are looking for a fun new place to explore! If you've ever wanted a chance to battle and adventure with the New Logoran Pokémon, or maybe to take a closer look at just what might be going on with all that weird unown stuff, now's your chance! We've got fakemon, we've got a wiki that contains all of their pokédex information and helpful guides, we've got mod apps underway if you're interested in helping out, and more fun stuff is on the horizon (like a mafia game starting in the next few weeks... and the eventual re-opening of the Serekayo region project, which will be looking for some awesome fakemon when it gets back on its feet)!

Beta RP spots are limited to the first 15 interested players at the moment, so move quickly if you want a bit of a head start while we finalize things!

See here for the announcement I made (far too late) yesterday, with a little additional information as well.

We'd love to see you all there!

Hello, yes, I am still here, I still make fakemon. (Good god, was the last submission really in November? :/) Between graduating from school, looking for/starting a new job and working on the "Big Project" I've been awfully busy, although what else is new. I have in fact completed several fakemon, as well as a few revamps, in this time, but for one reason or another they just haven't ended up on dA yet. You can go poke through the Phoenixdex or my Tumblr if you want to see what you've missed due to my inconsistency, though.

I am going to get back into the swing of posting art here—hopefully very soon, I have some additional revamps open and halfway shaded in Photoshop as I type this—but in the meantime I wanted to make a quick, if belated, announcement. Specifically, the aforementioned "Big Project" is just about ready to open, and it'll be launched tomorrow, Sunday, June 16th!

Pokémon Turquoise is an RP forum that has been around for several years in a few different incarnations, but it fell stagnant after running into some trouble with continuing its fakemon/region projects. On June 16th Turquoise will reopen after a long wait, and we'd love to see you guys there when it all goes down! You'll be able to explore the New Logora region (aka the one with the red-template fakemon in my gallery, e.g. acafia, drasarkr and caslot), catch and raise the pokémon found in said gallery and more—we're going to be adding to it all the time. The RP is intended to be casual enough for newer players who just want to have fun with some new pokémon while still providing opportunities for more experienced roleplayers to stretch their storytelling muscles, and it offers both mod-driven RPing as well as roleplaying back and forth with other players, so no matter what your roleplaying style you should be in for a treat!

Due to the staff pretty much consisting of the three admins at the moment, the RPG will have something of a limited opening tomorrow to keep our workload reasonable. Moderator apps will be ongoing all week, however, so if you'd like to help us get the game running and guide people on their adventures through New Logora then give the application a shot! And while you're waiting for the mod results and the full RPG opening, we're going to have some other fun stuff going on as well—promos, an icon contest and more!

Once Turquoise is really back on its feet we'll be resuming work on our next major project: Turquoise's own original region, Serekayo, and all of the gyms, fakemon and adventures that will go along with it! All we need to be able to get Serekayo back on its feet after its unfortunate development hiatus is a group of players who want to help breathe life into its pokémon (and possibly submit ideas/designs for several!) and its challenges. I know dA has some of the awesomest fakemonners out there and we'd love to see some of that talent contributing to Serekayo—I'll definitely be making another announcement when we're ready to open up development again!

(I'd meant to post this earlier in the week and give you guys a little more advance notice, but work, preparation and other stuff got in the way. Sorry!)

The URL and some more information will be up soon! Hopefully some of y'all will drop by and check it out! :D

And then, like two days after I said I wasn't going to add anything new for a while, not only do I add something new, but it comes on the tail end of suddenly having to add fifteen pokémon (only one fakemon, though, so only one thing that's worth uploading here) to New Logora's pokédex. Damn it.

...mostly my fault for not thinking most of the logistics of the region through when I first started on it four years ago. Now I keep having to change things out of the blue to clean up my miscellaneous dumb messes. Ah, well.

Oh and also a bunch of the existing NL fakemon are being renumbered but that's not really anything any of you would care about.

Probably not going to be anything new for a while, save the occasional move illustration, because /title, and also other stuff I need to focus on. I will try and remember to submit a few of the older things to groups, though, since the majority of them somehow never made it to any? Huh.

Just a heads up. Because people totally read my journal mirite?

oops i done forgot i had a dA again

Back, though! Didn't mean to neglect the reveals on these guys for so long; I ended up not adding in any extra tidbits at all, and they've actually already been revealed on the Phoenixdex (in time for said Phoenixdex's second birthday) for a couple of months now. Whoops! But for those of you who don't follow the Phoenixdex, your extended wait is finally over—Accolanto's new starters are right over here.

(...wait a minute... one of those guys isn't the same as the preview image! what manner of chicanery is this?)

Something resembling semi-regular updates should be starting back up soonish! (I'll also remind you of the existence of the aforementioned Phoenixdex and my Tumblr, both of which tend to be forgotten about slightly less often than my poor, poor dA.)

oh hey apparently i got to 20,000 views while i was forgetting i had a dA?

On occasion, I find that I have Things To Say about fakemon, fanregions, fangames and the suchlike. Rants, tips, maybe mentions of some P. Cool Stuff I've seen people do, whatever. Out of curiosity, assuming that you'd be interested in my Things To Say in the first place, where would you most like to see them? I could obviously attempt to actually use my goddamn dA journal more often, but I've also been toying with maybe a new Tumblr, something on the Phoenixdex itself, some combination of the above... I dunno! I'm not sure how many of you have Tumblrs or whatever vs the number of people who see my fakemon stuff on non-dA sites and whatever. Also still not sure if this hypothetical "fakemon blog" is something I really want to do right now. Thoughts? I say as though I expect people to respond to anything I write hahahaha

In other news, oh shit it looks like I accidentally a third region. Feel free to guess/speculate if that's your sort of thing. Might be more there than first meets the eye, though...

(Still looking for people who would be willing to help with unown Sugi art, by the way! Note me if you're interested, because I really don't want to draw them all by myself if I don't have to!)

Turns out I don't actually need them after all. I might still see if I can't bum a few off of people at some point because they'd still be pretty to look at, but nope, am no longer in desperate need. Going in a different direction, so to speak, one that's much easier for me to handle on my own.

I do, however, need something else: specifically, Sugimori-style artwork of 27 varieties of unown (official F unown art already exists). I can do at least some of it myself... well, really I could do all of it myself, but I don't want to. ;-; Is there anyone, or is there anyone who knows someone, who might be interested in helping me out with this? I have a few hundred points to spend if I need to commission people for some of 'em. Maybe comment if you'd like to help out or suggest someone who would?

I have some more interesting stuff to say in a little while, but in the meantime unown halp plz?

is tutorial

Was originally going to expand on the minisite I had to create for the assignment, but meh. Better off going on the Phoenixdex anyway.

So yes! Hugelong Sugimori-style tutorial video that made me hate my voice and that I suspect might be unclear, ayup. Hopefully you can get some use out of it in spite of how awkward it is. First video, be nice, etc..

Will probably do a companion image-based one at some point in the future. May or may not split into smaller segments and upload to YouTube; mostly I just don't really care about YouTube.

--

Still possibly looking for people to help with spriting for the Big Project Thing; see previous journal for details because I am tired right now and don't feel like rewriting that.

--

And on that vague note, I am sort of considering taking commissions. Probably not anytime soon because I'm way too busy, and I'm still sort of conflicted because of the whole points vs. actual money thing. Lots to think about, don't get your hopes up (haha lol because people would commission me anyway), and we'll see what happens.
  • Eating: hungry D:

Ordinarily I wouldn't bother with something like this because my pseudomori-jutsu is not as strong as that of some people I could name ;-; and anyway there are already plenty of tutorials out there, buuuut one of my classes this school quarter has us making a screencast tutorial as part of an assignment. The teacher said that an art tutorial would satisfy the assignment criteria just fine, and I can't think of anything else to do anyway, so that's what I'm going to be doing regardless; since I'm already doing it for the grade, though, I thought I'd ask whether that (specifically the way I color my fakemon, though I'd probably touch on some other stuff) sounds like anything anyone here would be interested in watching. Dunno.

On an unrelated note, I might be needing some assistance with sprites in the near future (preferably something approximating BW-style, but it might not matter much). Specifically, sprites for... just about all of the New Logoran fakemon, give or take a few. I still need to check with someone about what's needed, or whether anything is needed at all, but... yeah. Might still ask someone anyway just because seeing more sprites of my 'mans would be generally cool, and I don't like to sprite so I can't do it myself.

Which means I'd possibly be looking for someone who was either willing to take a few requests, or someone who might be willing to do several art trades with me (e.g. you sprite my stuff, I draw yours, something like that). Or someone looking to help with most/all of them as part of a project, but since people are busy I'm not really expecting that level of dedication from one person. I don't have any points and can't really spend any money on art at the moment, so commissions aren't an option unless the artist is, again, willing to take fanart or something similar.

If you're interested in helping me out, or if you have suggestions for people you think would be willing to help if I asked, I'd appreciate it if you'd note me or comment on this journal or something.

oh wow a project what might she need the sprites for, wonder, curiosity, speculation, etc.. bluh. I'm tired.

So those last five uploads, right. If you'll take a look at the latest update to the NL Dex image, you will notice that it is pretty much complete! Yaaay I'm finally done with all the NL pokemans yaaaay! I'd still like to revamp a lot of them since my art has come a long way since I first started (see: difference between the new Dyferal and Dybelial uploads vs. the old ones I just scrapped), and a few other changes are probably on their way, but for all intents and purposes the New Logoran pokédex is functionally complete. I are proud of myself. (The pokémon in the last seven empty spaces are actually all ready to upload, too; I'd just rather not do so right now because they're ~legendaries~ and I want to get more of the story ready to go so their reveal is ~special~, etc..)

Soooo next on the agenda is picking up the pace with Faelan (the region with the fakemon on the purple templates, e.g. the elf dudes and the lusty goats and the bear in a parka), which I kind of let die in favor of taking forever to finish NL; there are also a few other regions I'm getting a start on as well. And, of course, there's still tons of work to do on the New Logora region itself, the people who inhabit it, all the ~special stuff~ relating to the ~legendaries~... I'mma be real damn busy for a good while now. Hopefully it won't take as long to make progress this time! And hopefully I will stop forgetting to upload things that have been done for forever, because seriously those last few have been sitting there for a few weeks. (Granted I was on vacation for a bit, but I could have submitted them before that!)

So yeah this post is pretty much meaningless because duh I'm going to keep working on everything, but I just felt like patting myself on the back, okay? Leave me alone.

yeah I should probably get on that. But after this backlog I'm sort of almost done! Only a few fakemon left to draw before the New Logoran pokédex is complete (barring however long it takes for me to be in the mood to actually reveal the already-mostly-finished legendaries)! After that I can focus on other stuff, like the human characters and the story, and getting my other poor, neglected fakedexes up to speed.

For personal reference:

34, 35, 36, 37, 39, 42, 43, 44, 45, 52, 53, 63, 64, 80, 115, 116, 117, 147

EDIT: DONE ahahahaha backlog be gone! Sorry for the last six-image dump all at once, but I just wanted to get it over and done with so I can focus on the last few and actually being timely with them! :D

also note to self update all of the links in the deviations so they point to the new site, etc.. Which is here by the way in case you're interested!

I stuffed a few of my older images into storage, things like Shikaizar and Kitsami (which don't make sense in New Logora anymore and had a series of other problems; I'll bring them back for something more appropriate) and a bunch of my older, dumber designs and redundant things that have already been revamped. I totally did not know that was something you could do and oh god it feels so good to make the old versions of the Tedigrae line go away so I never have to look at them and no one will make the mistake of faving them ever again. Re: whoever did that recently: thanks, but oh god please don't that's so embarrassing I can do stuff that's a million times better than that now D:

Additionally, and this is partially kind of a little bit relevant, apparently I have a Tumblr now. I guess it'd mostly just be another place to post art, and possibly there might be some previews of shiny new fakemans (in fact, there would have been two shiny new previews up as of a few hours ago if the image uploading over there weren't doing something weird) in addition to maybe some stuff about my other nerdprojects if I ever get anything done. Follow me, I guess?

My memory. It is one.

Isn't it miraculous how every time I get close to uploading all the old pics from that dreaded backlog, I end up procrastinating or, as is even more likely, forgetting that I still have stuff to upload entirely? Well, NO MORE! In the interest of just getting this the hell over with, I went ahead and uploaded the remaining five all at once. Sorry if that was a lot to pile on at once, but it wasn't gonna get done if I didn't do it now. Ragh.

That is probably all you guys are going to see from me for a while, because I'm doing NaNoWriMo again and so my November needs to be spent writing, not fakemonning. Happy Halloween, and catch you guys in December!

(I also updated the NL Regional Dex with fifteen new pokémon... which means that, come the end of the month, I get to start all over again with a brand-new backlog! Hooray!)

omg that's not a game of some sort, is it?

...why, yes. Yes it is!

It's not a full-blown "New Logora" fangame or anything like that--I have neither the time nor the patience to do something like that properly. Instead, this game is basically a Battle Tower-style demo containing all 46 fully-evolved Phoenixfakes (newer Pokémon will be added in future releases, as will additional copies of these Pokémon with new movesets). Construct a team of your three favorites, give 'em some held items and go to town! It doesn't have fancy graphics or anything like that (durhurr i r not spriter), but it doesn't look half bad and is a lot of fun, in my humble opinion. You haven't really experienced three-headed sea snakes until you've pulled off a tasty Rain Dance sweep with one, trust me. Give it a try!

In other news, the oldest parts of the dreaded backlog are now done! Yay! All that's left are the ten most recent things I've done (all of which you can see on the new pokédex image thing from yesterday; all of the final-stages are also available in the aforementioned game), which I will begin uploading as soon as I post this. After that I can focus on new stuff... and maybe actually upload it in a timely manner, even! (yeah right hahahaha)

Apparently not me! Why doesn't anyone tell me these things? D:

For serious, though, I'm pretty much back now that the quarter is winding down and I'm looking at a break. As you can see I finally uploaded some new stuff; I also tweaked the abilities of some of the fakes I already uploaded due to reasons that may or may not be explained by the fact that I am planning something that required said changes!

That's right, you heard me. I am planning something. If you are not sick of my fakemon yet and actually wouldn't mind seeing more of them, then the something that I am planning might be fun for more people than just me! I mean, mostly I'm just doing it for me, because I mostly just make fakemon for me, but... yes! So! If you've ever wondered whether my fakemon are ever going to be good for anything more than just sitting around looking pretty next to their anal-retentive information, then this something I am planning might be relevant to your interests! OOOOO TEASERS WHAT COULD SHE BE TALKING ABOUT YOU DON'T KNOW!

Also! I don't know if I mentioned this before, but I've started adding links to the Phoenixdex entries of my fakemon to their little cardwhatsits. Moar shameless plugs for my fakemon site + timesaver because I don't like going into detail all over again when I upload them here. So if you want to know more than whatever little flavor blurb I give you when I post, go click those links. Yeah. (Most of the older ones don't have links yet; I'll be adding them in periodically. Everything uploaded from this point on should have 'em, though.)

to-do list (ffff why backlog is so hueg):

So. Those fakemans I post here sometimes. I don't usually have much to say about them on the deviations themselves; I almost never bother with stuff like moves, or stats, or proper pokédex entries, or... a whole bunch of other stuff! That does not, however, mean that I don't come up with all of that anal-retentive unnecessary nonsense! You just never see it on dA because it's all here!

The link above is one of my long-running projects, the Phoenixdex. Consider it a Bulbapedia of my own personal Pokémon fanprojects. Those of you who have no taste in fakes and have actually been following my stuff will recognize most of the pokémon on display there, so now you can learn more than you ever really wanted to know about them. There are a few up there that I haven't posted here, too. There are also some that are up here on dA that I haven't added to the Phoenixdex yet; that's because they don't have enough anal-retentive info to make displaying those pages worth it. They'll be added soon, though!

So... yeah! Go look at it! Yay!

PHOENIX'S FAKEMON FAQ: CLICK THAT LINK AND READ IT ALL BEFORE ASKING ME ABOUT USING MY FAKES

For the past few years I've been wanting to try... an experiment of sorts. I'd read a little bit about a fantasy author who'd created a "shared world experiment"--she wrote a story but then basically allowed the fans to modify it, RP in it, etc.. Sort of like a GPL novel or RP setting, if you will. (If I remembered what it was called I'd link you guys to it, but ugh. Solongago.) The project was already more or less stagnant when I learned about it, but apparently it had done quite well for several years and it seemed like a cool idea.

So I spent some time mulling it over, wondering how something like that might work in a more... Pokémony context. What I eventually came up with is the idea that people could start piecing together their own bits of the Pokémon world to use for stuff... like a community region building project, or maybe expanding on some of the concepts the official games haven't done enough with--the Unown, for example, or maybe Orre. They could get together and work on several different projects at once, extending the world the way they'd like to see it extended, and then of course they could start drawing stuff or writing about it, etc., etc..

It sounded like a fun idea, or at least something to give half a chance and the ol' college try. And so, after all that thinking, a few days ago I put it together. Pokémon fan community, meet DexGenesis. DexGenesis, Pokémon fan community.

Fancy giving it a whirl? Go ahead and join, and start contributing whatever ideas you might have. Right now in these early stages we're still trying to decide what initial projects to work on, but it could really go anywhere from this point. Come in and have your say! shameless plug join plz

In other news, working on a big project! Several, actually, whenever the Schedule from Hell allows, but since I'm pretty sure most of you only pay attention to me for my fakemans this is the only one worth mentioning ATM! Oooh, what could it beeeeeee...

Told you I'd have it done by this weekend! Granted, I've kind of neglected a few other things I have to do in order to finish looking everything over carefully and make my final decision, but I did it! First let me say that I really enjoyed seeing the ideas you guys entered. It does my crotchety old heart good to see some new life breathed into stale concepts. Granted, some of that new life was more than a little ways out in left field, but that doesn't mean it's not awesome! Narrowing it down to four was difficult, but that's a good thing. :3

TEH WINRARS!

:iconrenardchaton: gets an honorable mention for Bitran! A technology-related Pokémon doesn't have to be a machine, and it doesn't have to be a computer program to manipulate data and generally be creepy. Bitran is quite clever. I mean, it's fluffy and cute and looks so unassuming... I wouldn't expect it to hack into my computer! Knowing a little more about it (like its type) would've been nice, but it's definitely a fun concept.

In third place, we have :iconkamdunbar: and his Shuckworm! I've never really been interested in Shuckle evolutions myself so I guess I never thought about it, but the comment you made is quite right--Shuckle really doesn't need better defenses. I mean, I suppose you could leave its defenses alone and just bolster its HP, but then it would be broken and never ever ever die, mirite? Offensive is probably the better direction to take, and Shuckworm looks like a perfectly good attack-based variant--still very slime-moldy, but definitely a little quicker and able to do serious damage with that head. The way it looks a bit like a worm coming out of an apple is a nice touch. Also, anything that can have RockHeadSmash and actually pull it off well is automatically awesome in my book.

Second place goes to :iconkinova: for Lanoch! Loch Ness Monster fakemon and other plesiosaurs (I'm looking at you, Lapras) are done to death, but I like the idea of bringing it back to its kelpie origins. You went into a lot of detail, the markings are clever and I love that cute-but-creepy face you gave it. Docile kelpies are rather unusual from what I understand, but it works with what you've created. Nice work.

And finally, last but the polar opposite of least, the first place winner of the Overused to Original contest is...

...dramatic whitespace for effect and to annoy you...

...more dramatic whitespace...

...are you tired of the dramatic whitespace yet? You are? Okay, almost done.

:iconkentblaze: and Capoierant! I -love- this idea, really I do. Not only have you taken the overused ant fakemon and broken away from the ever-present Combee/Vespiquen-clone attempt eusocial structure, you've taken the capoeira concept Nintendo tried to touch on with Hitmontop and actually done something with it. The patterns are cool (lol and I just recognized the Fighting symbol on its abdomen XD), the picture is fun, you've given a lot of detail and put a lot of thought into its quirky moveset. It really embodies what the contest was about and... hell, I want one. :D

Now, a few more things I'd like to say.

To teh winrars:

Congratulations again, you guys. :) You can go ahead and note me with your requests and, to the first and second place winners, which of the shiny Pokémon you'd like if you're interested in one. You can also contact blazheirio889 about your sketch from her. As I've said before I have a Schedule from Hell this school quarter; that and a few other obligations may make getting to your requested pictures a little slow. Please bear with me as I sort stuff out, and hopefully it will only take me a few weeks to get to your pictures instead of a few months. ><;

To everyone who entered:

I wasn't sure whether you guys were expecting a lot of comments on everything, seeing as how I didn't specify what I'd do and all... yeah. If anyone (including the winners) wants to hear specifically what I thought about their entry--what I liked, what I thought could use a little tweaking, a lengthy string of personalized thankyouthankyouthankyous for taking the time to enter--feel free to note me about it.

That's all from me for now. Thanks again to everyone who entered--I hope you had fun stretching your imaginations! New pics for 2010 will be on their way as soon as I can be bothered to upload them, along with the rest of the ungodly huge fakemon backlog that still dates back to almost December of '08. I've got some other stuff I want to ask you guys (or tease you mercilessly with, hahahaha), but all that can wait for other journals while this one sinks in.

Phoenix out!
